5 Dog-Friendly Getaway Destinations to Love
Everything is better with dogs.
Traveling with your furry friend can be a rewarding experience, but finding the right destination that caters to both human and canine needs can be challenging. I’ve been there: when I adopted my puppy my partner and I already had a transcontinental vacation scheduled. Our pup was just 8-weeks old at the time and neither of us wanted to leave him at a kennel. If we had access to a pet-friendly travel resource we would have been able to adapt our plans and take our new guy with us—luckily a friend volunteered for a week of puppy cuddles so he was in good hands. But to be honest, I have never wanted a trip to end so quickly because I missed my dog. With that in mind, here’s a quick guide to the top 5 dog-friendly getaways that offer a perfect blend of relaxation and fun for both you and your best friend.

Tips for Traveling with Your Dog:
Check Local Regulations: Ensure you understand local leash laws and pet policies. Make sure your pup is up-to-date on vaccinations and has the proper documentation/tags.
Pack Essentials: Bring food, water, bowls, poop bags, a leash or two, and your dog’s favorite toys.
Plan Ahead: Make reservations at dog-friendly hotels and confirm pet policies in advance. Don’t count on ‘sneaking’ your dog into a hotel room to avoid fees—not only can this get you in hot water with your hotel, it can be dangerous for your dog. Pet-friendly hotels have staff trained to help in case of emergencies and evacuations, or provide reassurance if you need to leave your room without your dog.
Consider Your Dog’s Comfort: Make sure your dog is comfortable with travel and the activities you plan to do. If you plan on driving long distances, make sure you factor in ample potty breaks, and allow your pup to stretch their legs. If your dog is a nervous traveller or has a little anxiety in new places consider investing in a ThunderShirt, and bring a towel or shirt of yours from home so they can cuddle it and smell your scent.
Whether you’re hiking in the mountains or strolling along the beach, these destinations offer the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure for you and your pupper.
Safe travels!
P.S. Tell your dog I say hi.
